Healthcare Professional Coaching

Allison Partners consultants draw on our firm’s approach to professional coaching, and our team has worked with hundreds of healthcare leaders. We help clients reflect, build self-awareness, and develop practical strategies they can put into practice in both their professional and personal lives. We believe our clients are wise and capable of creating their own paths forward, with the support of a candid, caring coach.

Our clinical clients often comment on the breadth of subspecialties our consultants have worked with and are grateful for how well we understand the clinician experience as non-clinical coaches. Our administrative clients appreciate that we do not view their backgrounds as “lesser” than their clinical colleagues’, and that we understand the unique challenges of working in healthcare administration.

We cover a wide range of topics with our healthcare coaching clients, supporting their efforts in areas such as:

  • Getting promoted
  • Interviewing with new organizations
  • Improving public speaking skills
  • Supervising others
  • Building productive teams
  • Navigating conflict
  • Delivering positive and negative feedback
  • Facilitating effective meetings
  • Improving time management and prioritization skills

We often draw on our expertise in wellness to address burnout in healthcare settings. Our clients particularly value the Instant Stress Reducing Maneuver (ISRM), developed by psychiatrist Dr. Maxie Maultsby — watch this short video explaining the technique. We have a track record of helping providers who feel exhausted and disengaged, who are considering leaving their roles, or who have begun interacting with colleagues in unproductive ways.

Allison Partners has also developed a distinct process for helping physicians and other employees whose behavior has been identified as disruptive to a culture of patient safety, according to The Joint Commission’s standards. Our consultants help organizational leaders deliver that feedback directly to the employee, with specific examples and clear consequences. When necessary, we facilitate 360 evaluations; however, we believe direct, candid feedback from organizational leaders is critical to the process.

Once clients have received feedback about disruptive behavior, our coaches bring compassion, empathy, patience, and encouragement as they work through the feedback. We then help them learn new ways of interacting with colleagues and patients, and support action plans for repairing relationships, rebuilding trust, and restoring their reputations.
