Tell Me a Story

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, Allison read some of her favorite excerpts from Gonna Sit at the Welcome Table by Julian Bond and Andrew Lewis and paused to celebrate the power of persuasive speech (as well as a beautifully curated history of the African American Civil Rights movement).



What Should We Do?

Allison watched James Taylor and the Lowcountry Voices from Charleston, SC, pay tribute to the nine people shot and killed at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on 17 June 2015. Then she read March: Book Two, a graphic novel about the Civil Rights Movement by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell, and wondered, “What should we do?”



In Remembrance of Julian Bond

Allison read many tributes to Julian Bond in the days after his death on 15 August 2015 and pondered what she could do in an effort to celebrate his life and continue to build on the things he taught her.



Why Does Black History Matter?

Allison read her nephew’s blog post about Hidden Figures and reflected on what five African American women had to say about the movie.
