The Secret to New Year’s Resolution Success

31 December 2013

Allison read The Most Important Thing You Can Do In The New Year To Lose Weight, Get Sharper And Live Longer on The Huffington Post this morning and was happy to see another story dedicated to the secret ingredient for success in all aspects of our lives.

In 2013, I've bogged about sleep three times. I close most of my workshops with what I hope is an impassioned public service announcement on the importance of sleep for all of us but especially for the organizations who bring me in to teach on a variety of leadership topics.  I simply don’t think we can do any of the leadership “stuff” if we aren’t well-rested and for most of us that means getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

This month we’ll all see a lot of social media posts dedicated to people’s intentions for 2014 as well as articles, research, and other resources geared toward helping people succeed. I encourage anyone who’s got a goal for 2014 to read The Most Important Thing You Can Do In The New Year To Lose Weight, Get Sharper And Live Longer. It’s a wonderfully curated collection of some of the research that supports the importance of sleep for the things many of us are trying to improve in our lives.

If you have trouble sleeping, then some of your resolutions may need to include some improved sleep hygiene habits. Making sleep a priority takes discipline, but the nice thing about getting more rest is that makes everything else in your day easier to do.
