What We're Reading Now

9 January 2011

One of the ways we stay up-to-date on current organizational issues is by being active in professional organizations, and SHRM is the go-to place for all things HR. This weekend, the Virginia State Council met for its annual leadership conference and Sue was one of those who shared her perspective and expertise with participants. It's no surprise that Sue has some ideas about the future of HR; with more than 20 years working at SHRM and a career spent at the forefront of legislative issues related to employment and labor issues, she's been around the block. In her talk, Sue addressed what she sees as the four keys to success for today's HR professionals: the Competence and knowledge to navigate a complex field, the Curiosity to search for context and ask questions, the Courage to balance competing interests and stand up for what's right, and enough Caring to relate to the people we serve. That's quite a charge, but I feel fortunate to know many folks (our Allison Partners team included) who I think can live up to the task.
